I can’t even snark about this. I love this album so much. It’s rather absurd, hearing and falling in love with Abbey Road, arguably the best record created, in the year of our lord 2022.
But other than that song that shall not be named, it’s pretty perfect. Gosh, I hate being so basic, loving their most popular album. Well… Let It Be is next so I’ll hold out hope I love that one more and I can be counter culture.
I started out thinking I only knew 3 songs (Come Together, Octopus, Here Comes the Sun) But it turns out I knew most of them. Or had heard them, probably in movies and didn’t really know them. But this is definitely an album that I will listen to over and over. Just gotta delete that one track….
Come together: I don’t know what I could say about this that hasn’t been said!? It’s not my favorite on the album, but I do like it a lot.
Something: Clearly that opening guitar line is iconic. Lovely.
Huh. Was there a song here? Maybe my record had a big scratch and I skipped it.
Oh! Darling: I adore this song so much.
Octopus’s Garden: cute enough, but it’s hard not to think that they were trying to get back the je ne sais quoi of yellow submarine. I have fond memories of this mainly because it was the b side to my orange plastic square 45 that I cut from the back of a cereal box.
I want you: I don’t wanna sound full of myself, but I think John Lennon wants me. This song is a bit long. I could use some drugs. But I love it. That driving baseline, man. The wind. Wow.
Here Comes : Yeah I can’t not love this song. Just can’t. Talk about feel good music. This is an anti-suicide song for me.
Because: Ok I don’t really love this one but whatever.
You never : Love it. Really difficult to count my PT reps with them all “ 1234567ing” though.
Sun King: see Because.
OK so what happened here? Did we reach a point in the album where they didn’t have any full songs and so they just recorded what they had and strung them together? It reminds me so much of some classic They Might Be Giants work.
: Cute enough. Glad it’s short.
Pam: so this is Mr. mustard’s sister? “yes, you could say she was attractively built.”
: OK I feel so dumb here. I know I’m not familiar with this song from them. And I don’t think I’ve heard a cover. But the line “Sundays on the phone to Monday, Tuesdays on the phone to me?” I’m very familiar with that. Like it’s in some other song and someone just stole that part?? Argh. Can’t think what. Anyway, I like this one a lot.
: Nice
Carry that weight: oh I really like this one. I like how it seamlessly turns back into you never give me your money. And of course I’m a sucker for the group sing a long thing.
The end: Ahhhhhhhh!!!! The guitar from the Beastie Boys The Sounds of Science! I mean, I knew they took it from somewhere! This is great. Nice ending.
: Only not. Typical Beatles fake out Cute, fun.
